Pits and Peaks :: Miscellany

This week had its share of pits and peaks, leaving me feeling burnt out, yet giddy.

Pits ::

  • While I had visions of catching up on email and posts after a much needed camping trip, an obligation presented itself last minute that needed my complete attention for half of the “work” week. I am not opening any new emails until I cross off my list. My “to-do”  list that makes me whimper in my sleep.
  • If I have to say the words “share the toys“, “be nice to the cat“, and “please don’t growl at her” again in the coming months I just might lose what shred of sanity I have left.
  • I was hopelessly looking forward to the UFC fight this weekend…. only it’s next weekend. *doh*

Peaks ::

○ Introducing Charlie to her My American Girl doll, who she named “Baby Charlie” *giggle* and who I will call Junior. Luv has tucked her in each night and during naptime. They’ve danced and read books. Charlie has made Junior 5-star dishes in her play kitchen… It’s really quite adorable. Junior sleeps on the couch, atop a with a blanket. This is a truly special doll and I can tell Charlie is smitten with her newest friend.

Her eyes lit up when she saw Junior! Each morning she says “Baby Charlie. Sleep?” And I have her go wake her up :) It’s so sweet.

○ Opening a box that arrived Wednesday. It was from my friends Christine, Jen, and Andrea who attended this year’s BlogHer conference. They sent our little family some souveniers from the Big Apple, some “swag”, and a few unexpected surprises. It’s a humbling thing to have such thoughtful friends. We’re truly blessed to have found one another in this crazy blogosphere. I cherish their friendships. They lifted my spirits on the most trying day of my week. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Just a few of the fantastic gifts – autographed copy of Tangy, Tart, Hot, & Sweet – beautiful silky bandanna – autographed copy of The Pioneer Woman Cooks… for serious. Both were made out to Tink or Tinker – my nickname from the Skypals since I like “tinkering”.

○ I’m looking forward to our annual family “get-together” on Sunday. Sister#2 and Sister#3 and their itty bitty families, my Mom, and the three of us. Food, laughs, the lake, the kids,  and great company. The weather isn’t looking to be in our favor, but hopefully it will be okay. I need to remember to bring charcoal … everyone always forgets charcoal! :)

How was your week? Any pits and peaks to share?

Penmanship Fail

When I was working full time

When I was getting paid to work full time, I wrote very often. You know, like with a pen? My three favorite pens of all-time, by the way, are Sharpie Ultra fine point pen {black}, Bic cristal ballpoint pens {blue}, and those trusty 4-color retractable Bic pens.

I wrote log notes in the manager’s shift change log book, I filled out HR status change forms, signed for deliveries, payroll forms, new hire paperwork… and that was just managerial/bookkeeping stuff. Not to mention how many orders I wrote down when I was serving and cocktailing, how many red tickets I wrote if I was working the pass-shelf. I wrote often.

Now? Not so much. My handwriting is sloppy and ill-practiced at best. The blame lies on the interweb. Paying bills online, sending cards online, shooting a quick email, and let’s not forget this little thing called blogging. I think the most I write now is around the holidays when I send out cards … or jot down something on one of my lists {OCD}.

This whole epiphany came to me when I was sending out a few giveaway prizes. I saw my handwriting and it looked horrible, shaky even.

Okay, maybe not quite that bad, but it sure isn’t what it used to be! Maybe I should practice writing while Charlie colors.

I do find comfort knowing I am not alone in this though, after having discussed it with a friend on Skype. Has the online world affected your handwriting too?
